In 1972 the Temptations released a song entitled “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” which has become the mantra for less than stellar Fathers. Though many have used this as a joke when describing their non-existent dads, the void in their hearts that these individuals left is no joking matter.

With Father’s day approaching I wanted to take a moment to address this all too frequent scenario. For some, these absentee fathers were replaced by men of integrity who chose to make a difference in a child’s life whether they shared the same DNA or not. To these individuals we give great honor, thanks and appreciation.

There are those however who never had the pleasure of experiencing the love of an earthly father. For those who struggle with pain and abandonment issues, there needs to be a letting go and there is no better time than right now to do so. I am a firm believer in the power of forgiveness, not because someone deserves it, more importantly, because what they don’t deserve is the power to hold me in bondage because of something they did or did not do in my life. Now I am sure many theologians will correct me and tell me it should be a matter of my heart wanting to forgive, but I’m just being honest on how I deal with this.

Most importantly, you are too valuable to allow the sins of another stop you from attaining the greatness you were created for. Your Heavenly Father, being the provider of all things pertaining to you, has made provision to heal and fill that void that was left by another. Your requirement is to allow HIM access to your heart to fill it.

I’m fine, it doesn’t matter anymore:
One of our greatest defense mechanisms is the “I don’t care” posture. I am well familiar with this because it has been my choice most of my life. However, I had to come to the realization that it is not always the correct response. There are times when this is only a smoke screen to what is truly going on within our emotions. Although it may work in public, in privet moments the pain can be very real. This is where the need for forgiveness comes in. If we don’t forgive and release that person, we are held in bondage to the act that was committed against us. For some it is abandonment, for others rejection, there is abuse and even molestation that has to be dealt with.

It is time to face the issues head on, acknowledge they happened and put them behind us. In other words, it is time to let it go. I know for many, that may not be as easy as it sounds, however, the first step in this healing process is forgiveness. There are no excuses to be made for what was done to you and trust me I am not trying to make any. I believe we are responsible for our own actions in spite of what may have been done to us. That being said, often these men are just continuing the cycle of what they experienced in their upbringing. There was obviously something missing in how they were fathered or the lack thereof. We make up our mind that this stops with them. No longer will the generational issue be passed down to the next line in your lineage. You may say I would never do to my children what he did to me, but if you are still harboring un-forgiveness, then there is anger, pain and bitterness issues resonating within you and that will have a profound effect on your parenting skills.

It is time for the fatherless child in you to be healed! Although the things we encounter in life contribute to who we are, it is not the final say as to who we become. God created you for specific purpose and that purpose is the definitive on who you are.

Affirmation of a father:
Part of the responsibility of the Father is to affirm his children.
AFFIRM, verb transitive afferm’ [Latin affirmo; ad and firmo, to make firm. See Firm.]
1. To assert positively; to tell with confidence; to aver; to declare the existence of something; to maintain as true; opposed to deny.

In a correct family setting, the father builds the confidence of the children by declaring who they are. He is the one telling them they were born for greatness that nothing is impossible for them to achieve. He tells them to get right back up when they fall and do it again. He corrects them in love when they are wrong and applauds them when they are right. When this is missing in a child’s life, it is very easy for that child to get off course. Now don’t get me wrong, I know some very strong women who have instilled these things in their children lives, but it is supposed to come from the father and when it doesn’t, there is a void.

For those of us who missed that in our growth process, that is when the Love of our Heavenly Father steps in to fill that void. He has stated that you have been fearfully and wonderfully made, you are a pearl of great price. He has told you in HIM nothing is impossible and though you may fall seven times He is right there to pick you back up. He chastens you when you are wrong and tells you well done when you are obedient to His will. He declared that not only were you worth fight for, you were worth dying for. It doesn’t get any better than that.

My story:
Please allow me a moment to tell you a little of my story in hopes it will help you see the need to get beyond the actions of your father. My biological parents met in college in San Francisco in the mid 50’s. My mother was from New Orleans and father from Texas. One would imagine for people of color in the fifties to get from the deep south to California in pursuit of a college education was no minor feat. According to the documentation I received surrounding my birth, he was in his third year of college and was 24 years old and my mother in her second year and 22 years old when I was conceived.

Upon the announcement of my formation, he abruptly told my mother he wanted nothing more to do with either one of us. Remember, this was the 50’s and pregnancy out of wedlock was considered a major disgrace. All of my mother’s family was back in New Orleans with the exception of an Aunt whom she was residing with. The Aunt promptly put her out in her shame. Feeling she had nowhere to go she checked herself into a home for unwed mothers and gave me up for adoption.

I have never held my being placed up for adoption against my mother. I have always loved her in spite of not knowing her for her sacrifice of love to bring me into this world. On the other hand, I had a very different take on my father. He became known to me as just the sperm donor used in my conception. My feelings for years was anger for what he allowed my mother to have to go through because of his unwillingness to step up to the plate and be a man. I was not even concerned with if he had married her or not, it was more that he left her to fend for herself in one or the most difficult times in her life.

Later in life, I released the anger and just had a feeling of numbness. You know the place where indifference resides and you really don’t care one way or the other about a person. I thought I was good in this place. I felt like as long as there was no hatred in my heart all was well. Then someone pointed out to me what the Word of God says. “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” This was so important to God He said it twice, Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:2.
Important note here, he did not make reference to if he was a good or honorable man, He just said “Honor him”. What is honor? HON’OR, verb intransitive on’or. [Latin honoro.]
1. To revere; to respect; to treat with deference and submission, and perform relative duties to.

So in my place of indifference, I was not honoring the one in whom I share the same DNA.

I have no doubt, many of you reading this have suffered far greater injustices other than being non-existent in the eyes of your father. Some of you have physical and emotional scars that will never go away. For someone to tell you to honor the one that beat you or raped you is asking way too much of you. I understand that. But I also understand that you are far too valuable and precious to God to stay in this current state of bondage to your past.

One step at a time:
This journey with Christ is one of progression. We take it step by step at first, then we advance to level by level ultimately getting to the place of dimension by dimension. What I am currently encouraging you to do is take the first step and that is the one of forgiveness. Let that be your gift to yourself this father’s day. Instead of reflecting on all the wrong he did to you reflect on how wonderful it is to know by God’s grace you made it past all the pain. No matter how the enemy tried to use him to destroy you, you made it through. Start with a prayer on his behalf declaring him free from the wicked devices of the devil. Declare he will never be used of the devil to inflict pain on anyone ever again.

You have no idea how liberating it is to pray for the one who caused you pain. To go into the devil’s camp and snatch someone out of his grasp has power within that will change your life, not to mention what it does for the other person. Keep in mind the man was just the instrument the devil used to try and kill you. I would rather do harm to the kingdom of darkness than to give it the satisfaction of knowing it had halted me in any area of my life.

Maybe your father is already dead, you still need to release yourself from the bondage of your past. This means forgiving the act that was perpetrated against you.

Let this be the year that you no longer dread all the post and testament of the wonderful dads everybody has/had and this year brag on the FATHER who wouldn’t let you die or stay in a state of numbness. Brag on the LOVE OF “GOD” YOUR FATHER! Write your own testament of deliverance from the bondage of hurt and pain.

May God’s choicest Blessings of Grace and Peace be yours!

Don’t let your good be evil spoken of!

Don’t let your good be evil spoken of!

I have a commentary I would like to share. It is my own personal view so no need for anyone else to embrace it, I just felt the need to share. I find it very strange that it is offensive for someone of faith to succeed and have a beautiful home, drive in the finest of cars, dress in the designer labels most people only read about and have more than 6 figures in their bank account. Yet for an athlete to be paid millions of dollars for chasing a ball is consider awesome.

When did it become a sin to “succeed” in life? Now please hear me, I am well aware that there are those who prostitute the Word of God, and to them I have 2 words“Judgement Day”. These are not the ones to whom this commentary is directed.

I’m speaking of those who have developed multiple streams of income, to whom have embraced the Word of God and sought His counsel in business and because of it, have prospered with the “Power to obtain wealth”that He has granted them.

Just because a successful business person may also be a“Minister of the Gospel” does that give us the right to instantly put our mouth on them? Most of those who speak against this group of people would never give so much as a sandwich or bottle of water to a stranger in need on the side of the road but will immediately tell you about all the poor people who could benefit from the money that this particular group spends on themselves. However when they see the lavish living quarters of the athlete or celebrity their reaction is “that crib is fly”.

These same people who look down on the Pastor having anything nice if he/she is not working a 9-5 job would be the first to say “I’m not giving my money to the church for them to spend” however will pay $125 plus to sit in the bleacher at a ball game or concert. This money is directly benefiting those whom have the million dollar contracts who don’t even know their name. However, the Pastor who walks the floor at night in prayer calling out their name and for their families is not worthy of an offering. Personally I would not be the woman of God I am without the prayers and commitment of my Spiritual Parents/Pastors, therefore there is nothing too good for them. While people are running around tripping on what they may have or receive, I am looking for ways to be an even greater blessing in their lives. Somehow to sow into the life of someone who has chosen to stand on the front line against the wiles of the enemy on my behalf seems to be the right thing to do. But again, that’s just me.

It would be remiss of me not to interject here that there are “so called people of God” who have taken advantage of those who sit under their teaching. I understand many have been hurt badly because of their antics and they have definitely misrepresented clergy. Please don’t judge the masses by the undoing of the few and NEVER judge God by man’s corrupted standards. It is vital that you allow God to plant you in a good home/school to learn of Him. Don’t just go find a church seek HIS council. (Sorry, took a little rabbit trail there 😉 )

I have seen so many postings on Facebook and blogs calling these men and women of the cloth blasphemers because they have things and I am a bit confused by it in all honesty. This is not to pump up the prosperity message that has misrepresented the Word of God and has people coming to God for only what they think they can get from Him. This is to say I believe the Word of God and the many benefits that yielding oneself to Him has.

This journey called life will take you through many valleys,up and over many hills and will even allow you to tunnel through some mountains but at the end of the day your success will be in your obedience to the voice of God. There are some who love the Lord with every fiber of their being but will never live in a palatial home. While others are destined to invoke a luxurious lifestyle. Does not mean either party loved God more than the other. We all have different paths that God has set in motion for us.

The bottom line to this commentary is to be careful how you put your mouth on anybody whether they are professing to be a child of God or not. Who are you to determine whether a person is walking in the favor of God or enjoying a momentary season that will come to an abrupt end because of idolatry.

It is none of your business what path God has chosen for someone to take. Most of those who “look successful” in your limited eyesight have walked through some very dark and bleak times. They have learned the art of living “on” faith not by choice but by necessity. Like Paul they have learned to live through the abundance and to embrace the times when they were in the season of abasement.

I categorically do not agree with every message that people preach, but I have learned to seek the face of God for which part to embrace and which part to toss away based upon the life HE has called me to. Not based on others’ lives, but God what are you speaking concerning me? We all have unique callings and anointing’s on us and require different things in our lives to fulfill our destiny. Instead of questioning the lifestyle of another, why not get before God and inquire what’s necessary for you to fulfill your purpose.

Do not let your good be evil spoken of. You may be well intended by your comments of those whom appear to be living a decadent life, but as the Word proclaims, we look at the outward appearance but God sees the heart. You don’t know anyone’s entire story except your own, so let’s stick to what we know and not speculate about what we think.

God’s greatest blessings are before you. Seize every opportunity He has given you to show off HIS GLORY!

God will interupt your iniquity

Y’Shua will literally interrupt your iniquity to expose who He is to you.  You don’t believe me; just ask the Samaritan Woman He spoke to at the well in John 4.

Today I am coming to encourage all of you who are standing for your love ones who are still out in the world of sin.  This morning in prayer, God began to deal with me regarding the woman at the well.  The Holy Spirit pointed out that she was not seeking an encounter with God when the Messiah showed up and spoke into her life.

Think about the setting, here it is the middle of the day and she has picked this very time to go to the well so as to NOT encounter anyone else as she draws her water.  The respectable women of the area would arise early in the morning to draw water while it is still cool and they can visit with their friends as they together make their way through the streets to the well.

Ah but this woman was not considered to be respectable and to avoid all the whispers and stares and downright mean treatment of the others, she chose to go when she would be alone. Don’t let anyone fool you, they may say they don’t care what others may think about what they are doing, the lifestyle they have chosen or even their blatant disrespect for the things of God, but they care.  They have just walked so long under condemnation that their defense mechanism has kicked in and they have developed this hardness that says “I don’t care”.  Take it from me, I know this first hand!

So here she is minding her own business when this Judean man who shouldn’t be talking to her anyway is making conversation. 9 The Samaritan woman therefore saith unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

Then to compound things Christ flips the script and tells her by right, she should be asking Him for something to drink.  Now again, that defense mechanism kicks in and she gets a bit smart with Him like really who do you think you are. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?

Don’t get discouraged when the person you are laboring in prayer for does not respond in a favorable way to your sharing the gospel with them.  Trust me; all is well; just let the Lord take the opportune time to reveal Himself.  When He does, he will tell them all about themselves and will make a lasting impression on them.  19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet…..28 So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the people, 29 Come, see a man, who told me all things that ever I did: can this be the Christ?

It is not your job to convert your love one, leave that God.  He knows exactly what it is going to take to get them to take note of their life and to yield ALL to Him.  You just keep praying and believing and He will do the rest.

Your sons and daughters, husband or wife, mother or farther, sister or brother for whom you have been crying out to Elohim for is coming in, don’t be moved by what you hear or see, stand on the promise of God. Acts 16:30-31 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

30 Then, leading them outside, he said, “Men, what must I do to be saved?” 31 They said, “Trust in the Lord Yeshua, and you will be saved — you and your household!”

Relationship vs Religion

“I pray not only for these, but also for those who will trust in me because of their word,  that they may all be one. Just as you, Father, are united with me and I with you, I pray that they may be united with us, so that the world may believe that you sent me. The glory which you have given to me, I have given to them; so that they may be one, just as we are one —
I united with them and you with me, so that they may be completely one, and the world thus realize that you sent me, and that you have loved them just as you have loved me.” John 17:20-23

Relationship vs Religion

I believe every Christian Ministry has a central theme to it.  For some it is healing, for others salvation, there is faith and the list can go on and on.  The one thing that should always be the focal point is Christ or it is not a “Christian” Ministry.  My theme is encouragement.  Everything I do and teach has a tendency to resonate encouragement to be all you can in and through Christ.

If encouragement jumps out as my main theme, then my subtopic is always relationship.  You see, you cannot be ALL that you can be without your relationship with God being intact.  It is through this relationship that you learn the true meaning of who you are.

As you read in our opening scripture, Yeshua has prayed us into oneness with Him and the Father which denotes a relationship.  You will very often hear me say that Yeshua was born a Jew and died a Jew.  He did not come to earth and suffer all that He did to start a new “religion”.  He never once renounced being a Jew nor did He ever try to convince anyone to depart from following the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The purpose of His coming was to reconcile us back to God the Father which He accomplished on the Cross by shedding His blood as atonement for our sins. His job was done when He said “it is finished”; however, our work was just beginning at that point.

Before your jump up and accuse me of heresy, no, I am not saying we have to work for salvation.  Christ took care of that on the cross, all we have to do is accept His atonement, believe that He is the Messiah and ask Him to take up Lordship in our lives to receive our salvation.  There is no work we can do to earn it, we simply receive it.

Now that we have clarified that, the work that begins at that point is the development of our relationship with God.  As in any relationship, for it to grow, both parties involved has to work at its advancement.  God’s work in this equation has already occurred, He knows us better that we know ourselves.  We on the other hand have much to learn about our Father in Heaven.  Good news is He has availed Himself to us to learn of Him.

He has given us His Holy Spirit to teach us, guide us and reveal to us all that we seek to know about the God we serve who loves us not just as our God, but as our Father.

My encouragement to you today is to first, recognize that saying you are a Christian is not declaring your allegiance to a religious set, it is saying that you have a relationship with Christ “God’s Anointed One and His Anointing” and with God the Father “Creator of the Heavens and the Earth”; Second, to seek to know Your God and be all that He created you to be.

Religion will cause you to just repeatedly do something just for the sake of doing; Relationship will cause you to be somebody for the sake of what you were created to be.

God Bless you!

Back Up And Begin The Beginning

John 1:1-5  “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by Him and with out Him was not anything made that was made.  In Him was life and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.”

If you are contemplating stating your own business, you are in the right place at the right time to receive this word form God.  If you have already started your business and things are not going well or things are good and you want to make them better, Glory to God, you too are in the right place and time.

“In the beginning was the Word and the word was with God and the Word was God” No matter what you are endeavoring to do the beginning of all your thoughts, plans and ideas must be God.

What an awesome time to be alive and a part of the body of Christ.  God has so orchestrated and ordained this time to be the time of Harvest for His children.  I understand times have been ruff and money has been tight, but you have withstood the pressures of life and have overcome the obstacles set before you to reach the place you are right now.  You are in the place of prosperity, the place of divine favor, and the place of endless blessings.  Oh yes, what a glorious time to be alive. Deuteronomy 8:18 (NIV) But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

Whatever phase your business is in, the biblical principals being shared with you here will be the foundation of your success from now until eternity.

When beginning a business as with anything else in life that requires making a decision, it is imperative that we consult God every step of the way.  Never loss sight of the fact that you were created by God and your creation was specifically for His pleasure: Revelations 4:11 Thou are worthy O Lord to receive Glory and Honor and Power for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

It has been said many times, to know the purpose of a creation; you must consult the one who created it.  It is in the mind of the creator, who designed it, why it is.  To understand your purpose, you must ask Him who created you.

Your parents, earthly that is, did not create you.  They were just the tools used in the process.  Only God can create life, we simple procreate or reproduce life.  Before you were ever in your mother’s womb, God had already set in motion your purpose for being and your destiny.  Therefore, your purpose in life cannot be solely predicated on who or what your parents are or did.  Whether they are very successful God fearing people or the most abusive, hateful people imaginable, it is up to you to consult God Almighty to fully understand and fulfill your purpose on this earth.

Know this; God had other people in mind when you were predestined.  The fulfillment of your destiny affects the lives of countless others.  This is not just about you!  God uses His children to draw those yet still in darkness to His marvelous light.  Philippians 2:13 “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.”

When the purpose of anything is not fully know or understood, there is a tendency to misuse or abuse it. (To abnormally use it)  Take drugs for example, when used properly, their effects are good.  However, when used incorrectly, abuse occurs.  The average drug addict will tell you they are not hurting anyone but themselves, but it is people, not just the individual that become the victims of the abuse.

The same principle works in our lives when it comes to relationships.  A parent who does not understand their purpose in a child’s life will abuse or molest instead of loving, protecting and nurturing the child.  A person, who does not understand the purpose of marriage, becomes a partner who does not understand their God ordained role in the relationship and tends to abuse their spouse.

Businesses are no different.  In order to start, operate and succeed in business, we must first ask God what He has purposed for our life.  We all have God given talents within us that have been inputted for a reason.  It all works together to bring Glory to God, which in turn brings success for us.  If we don’t take the time to consult God daily for direction, then we misuse the talents He has given us and spend much too much wasted time in search of self-gratification.

Romans 8:28-32 “And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them that are called according to His purpose.   For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Moreover whom He did predestinate, them He also called, and whom He called, them He also justified, and whom He justified, them He also glorified.  What shall we say to these things?  If God be for us, who can be against us?  He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?’

If we carefully look at these scriptures, it is obvious we are in need of guidance from the Holy Spirit to successfully live our lives.  Remember, Revelations 4:11 declares all things were and are created for God’s pleasure.

We often miss the mark of success in life because we try and live for our pleasure.  In order to turn things around, we must submit all to the Lord, including our thoughts, words, actions and deeds.  I know it is a hard concept to digest at first, but as we learn to surrender all, then all is added unto us.

Let me break it down for you in a different manner:  You are no longer in control of your life.  If you have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord, “you do not own you”.  A great price has been paid for you.  1 Corinthians 6:19 & 20 “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God and ye are not your own?  For ye are bought with a price therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s”.

You may be wondering what all this has to do with your business.  If you are to succeed in business as well as life, you have to lay the proper foundation.  For every action there is a reaction and for every cause there is an effect.  If you are not properly aligned with God’s will and plan for your life, your foundation will be unstable.  If your choice of action is to operate your business without God’s direction and guidance, your reaction will be that of stress and worry about how things will work out.  Thinking you can handle it all by yourself will cause your effect to be failure.  I understand you have all your degrees on the wall and you have done all your research on the demographics of the area and everything is in order and that is good you have done your part, but you don’t know what tomorrow holds so it would definitely behoove you to know who holds tomorrow and take direction from Him.

Submission to God is essential for success.  Understand this, we are all slaves to something or someone whether we admit it or not.  I know some of us have a problem with humility, submission and the idea of being a servant or slave, but it is time to get over it.

To become submissive to someone is to submit yourself to their mission or to come under the mission of another.  Paul describes it this way in his letter to the Romans:  “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?  But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.  You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.  I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves.  Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.  When you were slaves to sin, you were free for the control of righteousness.  What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of?  Those things result in death!  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:16-23 NIV

Let’s take this a step further.  Not only do you not belong to your self: you are dead!  Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Isn’t God wonderful!!!  He created us, loves us, has mercy on us, sent His Son to die for us, who rose with all power to give us, reconciled us, justified us, sanctified us, transformed us, gave us His Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us and is seated on the throne watching over us to bless us.

Why are we so reluctant to give all to Him?  There is no doubt He can do much more with and for us than we can do for ourselves.  It simply stands to reason that if God created us to will and do His pleasure, then we need to yield ourselves to His directions.

 Count Up the Cost

If you stop and think about it, it is going to cost you far less to surrender your business to God than to hold on to it thinking you can do it by yourself.  Consider going out and spending thousands of dollars on an ad campaign with no results, when you could have gone into you prayer closet, consulted the Lord who would have directed you in another direction.

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In allthy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes, fear the Lord and depart from evil.  It shall be health to thy navel and marrow to thy bones.”

I know I sound like a resounding cymbal, but I really want to drive this point home.  Submit, surrender, give ear to the leading of the Holy Spirit, study the Word of God, walk in obedience to the laws of God and your business will be successful!  Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Go forth my Brothers and Sisters and make your Father God proud.  It is absolutely His desire that you are successful in all your Kingdom endeavors.

Setting Goals In Life

Setting Goals in Life

Luke 14:28 (The Message)

28-30“Is there anyone here who, planning to build a new house, doesn’t first sit down and figure the cost so you’ll know if you can complete it? If you only get the foundation laid and then run out of money, you’re going to look pretty foolish. Everyone passing by will poke fun at you: ‘He started something he couldn’t finish.’

I listened briefly this morning to a radio program in which a life coach was interviewing an author and they were discussing how to introduce yourself in a business meeting.  It started me to thinking about how we see ourselves versus how others see us.  The life coach mentioned her mission statement for life.

Wow, did that set the brain waves racing.  So many questions came to mind all at once.  In fact, I had to turn off the broadcast to hear.  (Mental note, when God starts to speak in the midst of something, it is more important to hear Him than whatever you were doing.)

Those of you who know me, know I teach business owners how to keep God centered in their business.  Part of being a leader in the Marketplace is establishing the Mission Statement for your business and conveying that to your employees so that everyone is on the same page and is working towards a common goal in the business.

As the light bulb went off in me this morning, I realized that this is even more important in our personal lives.  If our lives are not lining up with our Mission Statement for ourselves, then we will be like the person in the scripture above,  and at the end of life, people will be saying we started something and couldn’t finish it.

If the goals we have set for ourselves don’t line up with our Mission statement, then one of two things are wrong, we are either on the wrong mission path or we have the wrong goals.

Let’s look at what a mission statement is.  I found a few different definitions:

  • A mission statement is a formal short written statement of the purpose of a company or organization.
  • A declaration of the overall goal or purpose of an organization
  • A mission statement is a brief summary, approximately one or two sentences, that sums up the background, purposes and benefits of the project.
  • A statement of the philosophy of a certain company and ideals apart from making a profit.
  • Description prepared and endorsed by members of the organization that answers these questions: What do we do? For whom do we do it? How do we go about it? Used as a guide for making decisions in projects.

In the preparation of making a mission statement for one’s life, I think the last definition is the best one.  If you can answer those three questions; what you do, who you do it for, and how do you go about doing it, then you can properly set your goals in life.

As Christians, our answers should fall in line with God’s call upon our life.  Which brings up yet another issue, do you know what that call is?  Life is so much more than getting up, going to make a paycheck so you can pay bills and acquire more stuff.  Have you inquired of God what your purpose is?  The question, why am I here?  You are much more than just the result of your mother and father having intercourse, but to find out your true purpose you must get into the presence of the One who created you.  You are here because God has purpose for you, never sell yourself short by thinking you have no purpose.  You may not have discovered that purpose yet, but believe me you have one.  How do I know, because God never does anything without purpose in mind, and you where created in His image and likeness, therefore you have purpose.

In setting your goals in life, there are long term and short term.  It is important to have goals that are attainable which is why the short term goals are so important.  As you accomplish them, they will complete the long term goals.  Your first short term goals maybe to spend more quiet time with the Lord so you can hear and understand your purpose for that day; This will lead to finding purpose for the week, then the month, then the year.  Are you getting the point?

I can tell you this with certainty, there are others who will be affected by you fulfilling your God given purpose in route to reaching your God ordained destiny.  You must enlarge your vision to include others as you set your goals.  I am not just talking about your immediate family; people whom you may never meet could be directly impacted simply by you caring out your purpose.

As I said in the first paragraph, I started thinking about how others see me versus how I see myself.   My long term goal is to hear well done good and faithful servant at the end of my life. My mission statement in reaching that goal is to fulfill my God given purpose in route to reaching my God ordained destiny.  This is not a cliche, I have come to the realization that my happiness and sense of fulfillment is tied up in my obedience to God.  I have surrender all to Him therefore He is free to use me as He sees fit.

He created you and I with a unique specification in each of us.  You are designed with everything you need to carry out your purpose.  It is not by accident you are the gender you are or the race, or height or any other factor you had no control over.  It all plays a role in your creative purpose.  He is the potter, we are the clay.  He is the creator, we are the creation, and only the creator knows the purpose and reason for the creation.

Take some time and create your mission statement for life.  Then yield to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to guide you through your journey to the expected end to which God created you.

To Whose authority are you submitted?

To whose Authority are you submitted?

Luke 9:1

Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and AUTHORITY over all devils, and to cure diseases.

A few weeks ago I was watching the interaction between my oldest grandson who is 19 and my youngest who is 3.  The older one was chasing the younger who came running to me for protection.  When I told him to go tell his brother I said not to do that anymore, he stuck out his chest and went boldly to his brother and said “Grandma said stop!”

As soon as his brother turned to him and took a step, again he came bolting to my side for protection.  At that moment God spoke to me and said that is exactly what His children do.  They come to Him for protection and when He gives them instruction, they go boldly before the enemy at hand to proclaim what thus says the Lord, but as soon as the enemy raises his head they take off once again in fear and they forget the authority in which they were sent forth to begin with.

Just as my grandson forgot the fact that I sent him with the message to his brother in other words, “I gave him the authority to use my name” which made me responsible to back up what I said.   Like wise, we forget that God has given us the authority to use His name and will back up everything He says.

Let’s take a look at what it means to go forth in authority.  In the above scripture reference, the Greek word used for authority is Exousia (ex-oo-see’-ah); and according to Strong’s Concordance it means:

  1. power of choice, liberty of doing as one pleases
    1. leave or permission
  2. physical and mental power
    1. the ability or strength with which one is endued, which he either possesses or exercises
  1. the power of authority (influence) and of right (privilege)
  2. the power of rule or government (the power of him whose will and commands must be submitted to by others and obeyed)

Think about the first definition, the power of choice, liberty of doing as one pleases.  You have a choice as to whether or not you accept the authority given you by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross; which gives you the liberty to operate in the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Should you accept this authority you will be endowed with power and you do not have to worry about this message self destructing in five seconds for His message and authority shall live forever. (A little mission impossible humor )  Nothing is impossible in Christ!

There are 17 different times that gives witness to the power found “in the name of Christ” in the New Testament.  Here are three of them mentioned in John 14:

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask IN MY NAME, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.   14 If ye shall ask any thing IN MY NAME, I will do it.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send IN MY NAME, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Christ paid the ultimate price to give you the authority to go forth in victory, but that victory is only realized through your development of a personal relationship with Him.  If you do not know Him how will you operate in His power?

Definition number three above tells us that Exousia is the power of influence and of privilege.  What greater privilege can be bestowed upon you than the Creator of the universe using His influence to open doors on your behalf?

Now let’s look at what the Noah Webster 1828 dictionary has to say about authority:

AUTHOR’ITY, n.  [L. auctoritas.]

1.  Legal power, or a right to command or to act; as the authority of a prince over subjects, and of parents over children.  Power; rule; sway.

2.  The power derived from opinion, respect or esteem; influence of character or office; credit; as the authority of age or example, which is submitted to or respected, in some measure, as a law, or rule of action.  That which is claimed in justification or support of opinions and measures.

3.  Testimony; witness; or the person who testifies; as, the Gospels or the evangelists are our authorities for the miracles of Christ.

4.  Weight of testimony; credibility; as a historian of no authority.

5.  Weight of character; respectability; dignity; as a magistrate of great authority in the city.

6.  Warrant; order; permission.

By what authority dost thou these things.  Mat. 21.  Acts 9.

What gives authority credence, is our relationship to the one giving us authority.  Example:
When I travel abroad I travel with a passport, and the inside of it states: The Secretary of State of the United States of America hereby request all whom it may concern to permit the citizen/national of the United States named herein to pass without delay or hindrance and in the case of need to give all lawful aid and protection.

Because I am a citizen of the United States of America this has merit and would allow me to enter the American Embassy anywhere in the world to seek protection.  However, if I took this same document to say a French Embassy, they would not be bound by what the passport says because I am not a French citizen.

Remember the seven sons of Sceva in Acts 19:13-16.  They tried to cast out evil spirits using the name of Jesus, but because they had no relationship with Him, they literally got beaten out of their clothes.  They did not have the authority to use the Name of Jesus therefore the evil spirits weren’t subject to what they said.

So I ask you, to whose authority are you submitted to?   I pray that you are not as the children of Israel that Paul prayed for in Romans 10: 2-3   For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

It is through adoption into God’s family that we have been given authority.   I completely understand the affect that adoption has on one’s life.  You see I was adopted at two months old, and that act of kindness and love saved me from a youth lived in orphanages or foster homes.  This single act gave me a name to be proud of and wiped away the stigma of being unwanted.  It provided me a life of love.  My life was not perfect, and there were trials that I encountered growing up some self inflicted and other I had no control over, but through them all I knew I was loved and that made all the difference.

Our relationship with God is just like that.  Whatever the stigma that has been placed on you by the world in which you were associated with has been wiped away and you have been given a new name.  With that new name comes responsibility.  As a part of the family of God you are responsible for your treatment of others.  You are responsible for the authority given you, it is not to be misused, but it is specific authority to establish the Kingdom of God in the earth.

There are more benefits and blessing associated with your acceptance of Christ’ authority in your life than we have time to explore in this setting.  Suffice it to say that daily He has laid up abundance for you.

Now again I ask, to whose authority are you submitted?  You see, if you go forth on this journey in your own authority without the power of God backing you up, you will be like my little grandson.  He heard what I said and repeated it, but he still thought he was standing alone and he ran in fear.

I encourage you to seek the heart of the Father even more and know that He will withhold no good thing from you.  Keeping in mind that you are not only in authority, but you are also under the authority of God.  You must trust in His ways and His timing which is not always easy.  But know this, as you fully surrender all to Him, He is responsible to bring to pass every word He has spoken.

Study the laws of the Kingdom of God, of which you are a citizen, to know what your legal rights are.  All of these laws are found in God’s law book, The Bible.  Grace is awesome, but never forget God is a God of order.  Where there is no law there is chaos.   There are laws that govern your heath, your finances, your families, your businesses and your spiritual life.  These are not laws of bondage but laws of liberty for you to stand on.  You need to know these laws in order to utilize the authority given you.  Authority means nothing if it is misappropriated.  To try and usurp your authority in an unlawful manner is a misuse or abuse of the power given you.

Go forth in His authority and take dominion of everything He places before you.  Not in your own might, but in the power and might of Christ Jesus’ Name.

Be Blessed Family!
